Job Details: - BSN required - CPR Required - Licensure Required - 5 years experience required - Supervisory experience is preferred Summary: The Shift Director is accountable to ensure the smooth operation of the hospital during his/her shift, and to facilitate problem resolution throughout the hospital. The Shift Director assumes responsibility and is accountable for the overall operation of all the units in the absence of the Unit Manager/Director on evening, night, weekends and holidays. The Shift Director provides clinical expertise and oversees management activities during his/her shift in consultation with the Unit Manager/director for that unit, when appropriate. For matters of a serious nature, the shift director would consult with the Administrator on Call (AOC).
Responsible to ensure a safe, healthful and pleasant environment for patients via appropriate staffing, resolution of problems inter-departmentally and intra-departmentally in a collaborative manner and may be required to communicate with external contacts to gather factual data. DUTIES: Consults with appropriate personnel regarding handling of non-routine or emergency situations; and, consults with AOD regarding handling of unique situations. Documents incidents relating to patient care, employee performance, employee attendance or operational problems. Responsible to seek solutions which improve service delivery and contribute to time and cost savings.
Provides clinical guidance and instructions to the staff on patient care activities as indicated. Ensures that staffing coincides with patient census and acuity, assigns, reassigns and/or cancels staff according to needs. Participates in patient rounds as requested or appropriate. Coordinates clinical situations (i.e., scheduling emergency surgeries, placing the hospital on alert status, responding to codes/fires, etc.) Coordinates activities, integrates services and works collaboratively with other departments to maximize efficiency and effectiveness of services which support patient care and/or provide direct patient care.
Participation on improvement teams may be required. Serves as liaison between patients, family, staff and professional staff in clinical and administrative situations when indicated. May assess clinical competency and performance of staff on duty and provide input verbally and/or in writing as appropriate. May need to assign and monitor work flow for a particular unit.
Observes, monitors and controls productivity for a particular unit on a short term basis. Requirements: BSN required, Masters degree in health care administration, nursing, business administration or equivalent experience preferred. Minimum of 5 years clinical experience in health care setting required (Administrative and supervisory experience preferred). Must possess a current, valid Maryland RN license.
Must maintain current CPR certification.
