The Acute Care Division is recruiting for a Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant. That will work collaboratively as a member of a multidisciplinary team that provides comprehensive care provides comprehensive care to patients on the Clinical Decision Unit (CDU). The Applicant will work under the supervision of an attending physician who is a member of the Hospitalist Service in the Department of Medicine. Will also work collaboratively with nurses, pharmacists, respiratory therapists, physical and occupational therapists, and respiratory therapists.
Responsibilities: Obtain history and perform physical examinations on newly admitted patients, write orders for medications, procedures, and other treatments as necessary. Participate in daily rounds to report progress of specific patients and help to develop care and discharge plans. Perform procedures such as phlebotomy, and intravenous catheterization. Educate patients and families regarding the nature of their clinical problems, prognoses, and options for continued care. Participate as a teacher and as a learner in educational activities in the Clinical Decision Unit. Practice within the guidelines of the unit department and institution. The ability to incorporate into practice theoretical concepts and advanced clinical skills with patients, families, and interdisciplinary health care team members as necessary. Analytical abilities are necessary to diagnose patients and to develop and implement plans of action for long and short term management of acute and chronic health. Advanced interpersonal skills are necessary to communicate effectively with all members of the interdisciplinary health care team to enhance collaboration and problem-solving. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, are necessary to provide information to patients and health care personnel. The Acute Care Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant must be able to function effectively in a fluid, dynamic, and rapidly changing environment. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree; Certification by the NCCPA or similar national certifying body; Completion of a CAAHEP certified Physician Assistant program. Must be licensed as a PA in the state of Maryland or other state where practicing/or Must be certified and licensed as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Maryland. Licensed in Acute Care is required. Current CPR certification required. Must maintain current licensure and certification during duration of employment. Completion of the JHH credentialing process is required prior to start date.
Additional Skills: Analytical ability necessary to evaluate health status of patient and to implement proper care plan. Interpersonal, Communication skills necessary to interview, teach and counsel patients. Ability to work independently in a multidisciplinary environment with a high degree of self-motivation. Required Physical, Mental, and Visual Abilities: Stooping and bending; Reaching and grasping objects; walking and/or standing for extended periods of time.
