CentralCare, Inc. is a leading provider of contract staffing services in the Federal Government Contracting Healt! hcare sector, is currently looking for a Registered Nurse in Intervention Radiology to provide services at the National Institutes of Health, Radiology and Imaging Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland.

Tasks/Services:
1. Assess clinical issues related to orders and performance of imaging studies including clarification of specific exam requested; communicate with referring clinicians, radiologist, Senior Clinical Research Nurse in order to resolve issues related to IR study; assess patients for previous allergies to contrast agents; discuss allergy preparation with referring clinicians; confirm patient's receipt of premedication in order to ensure correct preparation for allergy prophylaxis

2. Adhere consistently to patient identification verification process and comply with Surgical/Invasive procedure verification check-off/time-out, and documentation that reflects these activities;

3. Assumes a regular Monday-Friday schedule with on call re! sponsibilities for evenings, nights, weekends and holidays as ! needed by the modality.

4. Will assume scrub role responsibilities (if inexperienced training will be provided)

5. Evaluate CRIS to ascertain isolation status; identify organism and site; assess risk and prepare the Personal Protective Equipment/environment, as appropriate, for all healthcare professionals in contact with the patient; consistently demonstrate compliance with Infection Control techniques, policies and procedures.

6. Complete competency in Moderate Sedation within one week of hire; administer moderate sedation and provide required assessment and management of the patient prior, during and after recovery.

7. Plan, coordinate and implement the nursing care provided to patients during procedure/exam evaluate the clinical care and monitor patient response to interventions throughout their Interventional Radiology experience.

8. Receive and provide hand-off reports for patients in the IR suite to ensure the safe and acc! urate transition both into this specialty area and transferring into the nursing units

9. Facilitate workflow, including: starting IV's or accessing central lines/ports for diagnostic procedures such as CT or MRI, placing orders with detailed instructions to patients awaiting CT scans.

10. Educate patients and Clinical Center nursing staff regarding patient preparation and follow-up instructions for various imaging studies.

11. Initiate peripheral intravenous lines for the administration of contrast media in imaging exams and for sedation purposes within IR; troubleshoot infusion pumps for patients throughout Radiology; access and check the integrity of central venous access devices/ports for the administration of contrast media and ensure the device is appropriate and safe.

Required Skills

1. Ability to stand or walk for extended periods of time, wear lead aprons, lift/transfer patients and work in a clinical setting wher! e exposure to contrast materials, infectious patients, blood/body fluid! s and radiation is frequent

2. Ability to change priorities and to multi-task while maintaining high level of organization and completing work comprehensively

3. Strong communications skills, both oral and written.

4. Excellent analytical, organizational, interpersonal and time management skills.

Required Experience

1. Minimum of seven (7) years of related experience

2. Current BCLS certification

3. Current RN license

4. Previous Critical Care, Emergency Room or Cardiac Catheterization Lab experience of five (5) years or more.
