The Center for Immunization Research offers an exciting career challenge for a Research Nurse specializing in Pediatrics. Will function as a member of a research team of scientist, health pr! ofessionals, and administrative personnel to evaluate new respiratory vaccines in adults and children. Requires the interpersonal and organizational skills to conduct independent recruitment activities in pediatric clinics and private practices in the Baltimore/Washington area for participation in NIH funded vaccine research studies. Responsible for implementation of the research program in the following areas: recruit, interview and educate potential study volunteers and families. Conduct participant pre-screen calls from home and in the office and schedule participants for screening. Obtain written informed screening or study consent and obtain HIPAA release for medical record. Review medical records for basic inclusion/exclusion eligibility. Maintain study forms on paper and computer files. Organize and file participant records. Assist in study chart reviews, preparation and maintenance of study materials, data collection including but not limited to study documentation,! maintenance of subject’s medical and research records, main! tenance of written study related logs. Perform other recruitment, retention and research related activities as needed. Responsible for knowledge of protocol and protocol related SOPs, IRB, GCP, and HIPAA guidelines. Assist in SOP and protocol development; implementation of quality control measures; provide input into operational project procedures; site logistics including resource needs, orientation of casual employee staff and work study students and oversight of adherence to protocol, IRB and GCP and HIPAA guidelines. Ensure security and confidentiality of all data. Participate in training sessions and team meetings when appropriate. Attend mandatory training sessions including but not limited to IRB updates, protocol site initiation meetings, CPR renewals, biohazard and Human Subjects training. Meet regularly (phone or in-person) with research coordinator for review of data accuracy and overall progress of recruitment activities. Communicate status of research activitie! s to study clinical coordinator, investigators, center director and monitors. Maintain effective communication and acts as a liaison between study staff and recruitment sites. Works independently and as a team member; has accountability for project implementation and other duties as assigned. Assist with regulatory process (IRBs, FDA, etc). Other duties may include obtaining, processing and shipping of specimen samples. Clinical assessment of pediatric subjects.

Qualifications:
RN required. Requires individual be registered nurse, licensed in the State of Maryland or state where practicing. Requires use of personal automobile for travel form Center and off-site locations. Licensed registered nurse in appropriate state(s). Ability to stand, walk or sit for an extended period of time. Reaching by extending hands or arms in any direction. Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hands or arms, for example, using a ! keyboard. Communication skills using the spoken word. Ability to see wi! thin normal parameters. Ability to hear within normal range. Works independently as a team member. Has accountability for project implementation and other duties as assigned. Delegates responsibilities appropriately. May need to work outside of regularly scheduled hours to accommodate study needs. Able to make study level decisions based on a combination of professional judgment and experience. Consults with Research Nurse Manager, Sr Research Nurses, Faculty, Sponsor, Regulatory Authority, Principal Investigator(s), and Center Director as necessary. Clear, concise, professional oral and written communication required. Able to communicate effectively with pediatric medical care providers, parents and children.

Preferred Qualifications:
BSN. Experience recruiting and screening for studies in the pediatric population. Phlebotomy and computer skills.
