JOB SUMMARY

The Assistant Director of the Institute for Credentialing Research provides strategic direction for the development aspects of new programs and initiatives to implement ANCC's outreach to academia with the following responsibilities: serving as ANCC lead liaison to faculty and students in national and international schools of nursing and other external stakeholders in the educational and regulatory community; building relationships and networks of connections to academic professionals; developing informational content and delivery mechanisms to increase the knowledge of faculty and students about the value and availability of credentialing programs in nursing; establishing, managing, evaluating, and improving two new programs, Portfolio Recognition and Curriculum Recognition for APRN certification; planning initiatives to offer multisite research study opportunities; and provi! ding backup to the Research Director.

ESSENTIAL JOB F! UNCTIONS OF THE ASST. DIRECTOR OF THE INSTITUTE FOR CREDENTIALING RESEARCH

Serve as a liaison between ANCC and faculty of schools of nursing and other external stakeholders in the educational and regulatory community (e.g. state boards of nursing staff, others) to assess informational needs, develop educational materials, and deliver presentations describing the value and availability of ANCC's credentialing programs to students and/or faculty in nursing graduate and undergraduate programs.

Establish relationships to form a network of contacts with schools of nursing faculty members both nationally and internationally who are committed to providing nursing students with adequate information and knowledge about credentialing in nursing.

Develop an array of materials, toolkits, and content for live presentation to be readily available as requested with emphasis on any of ANCC's credentialing programs (i.e., certification, Magnet recognition, Pathway! to Excellence recognition, and accreditation for continuing education); deliver presentations to groups (e.g., faculty and/or students) upon invitation, etc.

Identify and develop relationships with schools of nursing faculty members who have research interests and experience relevant to possible volunteer activities such as participation as discussants in the ANCC Research Symposium or as members of the ANCC Research Council.

Collaborate with APRN faculty on their graduate nursing programs to ensure the design of curricula is compliant with ANCC requirements for certification eligibility.

Manage the Certification Advanced Practice Nursing Curriculum Recognition product to provide schools of nursing with an official acceptance confirming that they meet education eligibility criteria for certification.

Develop, implement, and evaluate the outcomes of ANCC certification activities for advanced practice nursing.

Conduct research, en! vironmental scans, and analyses to produce reports on certification, po! licy, education, accreditation, and licensure and regulatory issues that affect ANCC. Employ critical thinking and statistical evaluation tools to analyze, evaluate, trend data, and formulate conclusions and recommendations.

Provide updates as needed to schools of nursing faculty and/or students regarding the relationship of certification and ANCC's other credentialing programs to issues and changes in professional nursing standards, scopes of practice, regulation, education, accreditation, etc.

Portfolio Recognition

Oversee the development of the ANCC portfolio recognition product nationally and internationally.

Design portfolio manuals, instructions, and publications as needed based on analysis of trends, changes in health care, policy, and feedback from stakeholders.

Serve as primary liaison to portfolio stakeholders to include professional organizations, regulatory bodies, and internal staff.

Conduct trend analysis o! f the portfolio recognition product, analyze data, and make recommendations for quality improvement.

Manage the recruitment, coordination, and oversight of portfolio evaluators (approximately 15-20), providing regular communication and feedback

Select independent contractors to develop portfolio materials (e.g., candidate handbooks, evaluator handbooks, and marketing materials).

Manage, evaluate, and revise the candidate submission and evaluation process to improve the efficiency of portfolio recognitions as an ANCC credentialing program.

Multisite Research Study Initiatives

Develop new initiatives that provide opportunities in the healthcare community for participating in the multisite research process, building research capacity within and across organizations, and accelerating the translation of research findings into practice.

Develop and implement relevant policies, procedures, and systems to (a) identify and select! priority research topics, (b) prepare a call for research proposals, (! c) disseminate the call for proposals to appropriate audiences, (d) specify proposal evaluation criteria, and (e) convene a scientific review panel to rank the scholarly merit of proposals received.

In collaboration with ANCC legal and business staff, prepare the contracts/agreements between ANCC and selected researchers necessary to authorize and support the conduct of the selected research.

Monitor and facilitate the progress of the multisite research studies initiated.

Build and maintain interdisciplinary relationships among potential study investigators and staff that support credibility, mutual respect, and professional development.

Supervise support personnel for multisite study initiatives (Research Associate)

Plan and manage Research Department Budget

Supervise support personnel for research budget (Survey and Research Specialist).

Travel on average 10-12 times/year (could be 2-3 days at a time) to deliv! er presentations at various venues or to meet with potential or current stakeholders

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

Education
PhD in Health Administration or related field required with baccalaureate or masters degree in nursing. Registered Nurse with certification in a specialty (e.g., nursing administration, advanced practice, healthcare administration, association management)

Related Work Experience
Minimum 7 years experience faculty leadership in nursing/education. Minimum 10 years progressively responsible managerial experience requiring independent decision-making in faculty department, program management, or association management. Minimum 5 years progressively responsible supervisory experience in nursing leadership/education (program management or curriculum design).

Skills
