Unit Manager

Under the Direction of the Director of Nursing Services and the ADON, and following the Facility’s Philosophy of Nursing Care the Unit Manager assumes 24-hour responsibility for the day-to-day functions of the Nursing Unit in acco! rdance with all current federal, state, and local standards governing long-term care facilities. With the guidance of the ADONs and the Director of Nursing Services, the Unit Manager ensures the highest degree of Quality Care is provided to the residents of the unit at all times. The Unit Manager has the responsibility for the completion of the resident assessment program for his/her unit(s), including the MDS process, the concurrent review process, and care plans.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Educational Requirements:
Must be a graduate from an accredited School of Nursing program. Must be able to
read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
Licensure, Certification and Registration:
Must be registered and in good standing with the State of Maryland, Board of Nursing.
CPR certification required. IV Therapy certification required.
Work Orientation and Experience:
Must have previous recent e! xperience in a healthcare facility. Long-term care
experie! nce preferred. Must have previous recent management experience.

Must demonstrate the ability to provide encouragement, support, supervision, and direction to team members. Must be computer literate with system/software training. Must demonstrate super! ior assessment skills for the long-term care resident population. Must be able to act quickly and decisively in emergency situations. Must possess a working knowledge of general, rehabilitative, and restorative nursing, medical policies and procedures, and laws, regulations, and guidelines governing long-term care.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:
Supervision Received:
Reports directly to the Assistant Director of Nursing Services. Also
receives direction from the Director of Nursing Services.
Supervision Exercised:
Provides direct supervision for the Licensed Staff assigned to the Nursing Unit and
provides guidance and direction to the CMA and GNA staff assigned to the Nursing Unit.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:
Equipment includes, but is not limited to: hoyer lift, whirlpool tubs, vital signs equipment,
wheelchairs, electric beds/specialty! beds, monitoring systems, nurse call system, pill crusher, medication ! cart, facsimile machine, standard office/computer equipment, standard IV Therapy equipment, standard enteral feeding equipment, standard oxygen equipment, Nebulizers, suction machinery, and pulse Oximeter. Transitional Care Unit only â€" Lifepack Defibrillator and Doppler.
PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT / WORKING CONDITIONS:
Must be able to lift, position, and/or move residents of varying sizes to/from varying heights. Must be able to stand or walk for prolonged periods of time. Must possess manual dexterity and mobility to operate equipment and provide ADL care. Subject to the hazards of flammable and explosive gas. Occasional stress during emergency situations or periods of multiple demands. Exposure to cleaning agents and chemicals used in sanitation procedures. Regular or continuous risk of exposure to body fluids, infectious waste, or blood borne diseases requiring the consistent use of personal protective equipment and adherence to established protocols.
