This job posting is for a Registered Nurse to assist the PI with their clinical and research activities as an Urologist at Johns Hopkins Hospital and outlying clinical sites. The hired applicant will spend 70-80% of their time in patient care.
S pecific Duties/Responsibilities:
Clinical Responsibilities:
- Assist the PI with patients in clinic as needed (i.e. phlebotomy, putting patients in rooms, vital signs, assisting in obtaining patient histories, assisting with procedures)
- Work with patients to obtain outside medical records and pathological slides for review at Johns Hopkins
- Speak with patients to answer questions regarding current medical conditions and upcoming clinical and surgical procedures.
- Document contact with patients in the electronic medical record
- Complete and track all medical necessity letters for medications and procedures, insurance forms, back to work letters, family leave papers, and VA forms
- Call in new prescriptions and renewals
- Aid in coordinating and scheduling diagnostic testing
- Assist patients with referrals to other physicians and complete consult forms as needed.
- Call patients to confirm appointments and verify their compliance with procedure requirements.
- Call patients to provide lab results and other diagnostic results as directed by the PI
- Send patient records to both patients and other outside facilities and physicians.
- Assist in compiling and formulating surgical discharge instructions
- Meet regularly with the PI to discuss patient needs and concerns
- Help with other clinical activities as needed.
Research Responsibilities:
- Meet with study subjects in clinic and perform all activities related to the study (i.e. consent process, phlebotomy, history, vital signs, height and weight, complete required paperwork / case report forms, and dispense and track study medications).
- Coordinate follow up appointments for subjects and complete all phone contacts between visits.
- Travel to Investigator/Coordinator meetings held by sponsors
- Participate in tel econferences with sponsors or other study sites
- Order, package and ship study materials to subjects when required by the study protocol.
- Complete and maintain all records and study related materials during procedures.
- Help with other research related activities as needed.
Minimum qualifications:
- Registered Nurse (RN)
- Must be a graduate of an accredited university
- Must be a registered nurse licensed to practice in MD
Preferred qualifications:
- 2-5 year clinical experience in an ambulatory (outpatient) setting
Special knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Demonstrated leadership ability
- Flexibility to adjust schedule to meet patient and staff needs
- Ability to manage time and stress effectively and adapt to unpredictable situations within the patient care setting

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. Failure to meet this requi rement may result in termination of employment.
The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
